Beauty Tips: How to Keep Your Skin Radiant From A Long Plane Ride

One of the biggest things I dread before I hop on a plane is the thought of my skin being so dehydrated from a plane ride.
Since I was travelling so much this end of the year, with 6 flights in total, I came up with four essential steps to avoid my face looking like a shriveled up raisin and more like a ripe plump tomato (minus the red) after a plane ride. :)

1. Prevent dehydration by giving what our body craves: WATER!
I make sure I drink at least 2L each day (48hours before) boarding the plane.

Why?
The body transports blood around the body that provides nutrients to vital organs and allows efficient waste elimination. If we are dehydrated, your circulation SLOWS DOWN and therefore efficient waste elimination is decreased and the skin being not only the largest elimination system in our body...up pops a pimple! Uh oh!

How?
I buy a 2L bottle of water everyday and I make sure I drink the whole bottle before the day ends. I prefer drinking Evian or Fiji water, I believe in good quality water. Be good to your body! :)

*Remember that Coke, Lemonade or caffeinated beverages do not count as water!*
2. Using Rose Hip Oil before my moisturizer on the day of the flight.
Why?
The oil penetrates into the skin and makes it soft and supple to touch. Your skin will drink this up and thank you for it!

How?
Wash your face first before your flight. Place 2 or 3 drops of Rose Hip Oil onto your fingertips and rub them together. Apply the oil on your skin by either softly massaging your face or as I like to do it, pat the oil evenly on your face.
I like to use the Akin Rose Hip Oil!

3.      Using a thicker moisturizer than usual (use cream instead of lotion).
Why?
A cream is a thicker moisturizer and will provide more moisture than a regular lotion would. They goal here is to keep the skin happy by giving it moisture that it can absorb during the flight. A lotion maybe too light and will not be able to feed the skin as much moisture as a cream would

How?
Use this moisturizer on clean face and after the rose hip oil. CAUTION: Don’t over apply, it can break you out, know your skin and know how much your skin really needs.
I like to use Dr. Alkaitis Organic Night Cream.

4. Make Lip Balm your best friend
Why?
This will moisturize the lips on the plane to avoid cracking cringe worthy lips. Keeping your nails in shape,  plus they don't qualify as a liquid so you can get past airport security, hassle free!

How?
Smear over lips to instantly repair and protect against cracking, peeling and general dryness.
I like to use EOS Smooth Sphere Organic Lip Balm in Honeysuckle.

Have fun travelling and tell me what you do to keep looking fabulous after a long arduous plane ride.

Makeup and Beauty Advice for Music Festivals/Concerts

We all LOVE going to music festivals but what we all DON'T love is looking like a big sweaty mess after half an hr inside the damn thing! I mean, imagine all the photos that your friends took that day. They're all going up on Facebook!

So how do we keep primped and preened whilst maintaining the festival theme of fun and trashy goodness?

Here is a guide on looking your best at a music festival without worrying too much about your face and more on how you are going to whip your hair back n forth to the next beat!

FACE:
1. SUNSCREEN
Protect that beautiful face of yours!
  • Any facial sunscreen at least SPF30+ ( let's preserve your youth as much as you can because all that alcohol won't help!)
  • Recommendations:
  • Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection for the Face SPF 55+, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF55+

2. PRIMER
Don't want that make up to slide off your face girl!
  • You apply this before your foundation or tinted moisturiser
  • Why? This will help keep your foundation stay on for longer and resist it wearing down from sweat.
  • Recommendations:
  • Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer, Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, Clinique Pore Minimizer Perfector.
3. Wear a TINTED MOISTURISER or MINERAL FOUNDATION or if you must a LIGHT/MEDIUM COVERAGE FOUNDATION
  • I find mineral foundation the best to use during festivals.
  • Why? You want good looking skin. It allows the skin to breathe and it also gives your skin a glow from within look even when you sweat- no cakiness!
  • Heavy coverage foundation
  • can look incredibly cakey and messy when mixed with sweat. AVOID!
  • DON'T FORGET TO set your foundation w/ POWDER
  •  or a SETTING SPRAY for the whole face.
  • Recommendations:
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, Meow Cosmetics Mineral Foundation, Everyday Minerals Foundation
4. CREAM BLUSH
  • Why? It gives you a healthy pink rosy cheek as well as a healthy glow from within look.
  • Recommendations: M.A.C. Blushcreme in Ladyblush (my favourite!)

EYES:
I know you will have your shades on but... you will be taking them off some point in the night!
1. EYESHADOW PRIMER
  • Why? It will keep your eyeshadows in place and allow you to maximise the colours of your eyeshadows.
  • Recommendations:
  • Urban Decay Priming Potion, Toofaced Shadow Insurance, M.A.C. Blankety Paintpot
    2. NEUTRAL EYE MAKEUP

Why? I feel neutral smokey eye makeup for festivals look the best in photos. It's smokey enough to give it that sexy cat eye look but also not too dark that it looks like there is too much eye makeup for daytime.
3. WATERPROOF MASCARA
  • Why? Normal mascara will run so you should use waterproof mascara to avoid panda eyes when you take your shades off!
  • Recommendations: Your favourite waterproof mascara, mine are L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara, Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara

LIPS:
1. Tinted Lip Balm
Why? Will keep you looking cute and fresh! And most of them contain SPF in them too!
Recommendations: Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer, Natio Tinted Lip Balms

Don't forget the bug sprays and to wear comfortable shoes! Most of all have fun!
xx.
