Beauty Tips: How to Keep Your Skin Radiant From A Long Plane Ride

Posted by Ori on 12/18/2011

One of the biggest things I dread before I hop on a plane is the thought of my skin being so dehydrated from a plane ride.
Since I was travelling so much this end of the year, with 6 flights in total, I came up with four essential steps to avoid my face looking like a shriveled up raisin and more like a ripe plump tomato (minus the red) after a plane ride. :)

1. Prevent dehydration by giving what our body craves: WATER!
I make sure I drink at least 2L each day (48hours before) boarding the plane.

Why?
The body transports blood around the body that provides nutrients to vital organs and allows efficient waste elimination. If we are dehydrated, your circulation SLOWS DOWN and therefore efficient waste elimination is decreased and the skin being not only the largest elimination system in our body...up pops a pimple! Uh oh!

How?
I buy a 2L bottle of water everyday and I make sure I drink the whole bottle before the day ends. I prefer drinking Evian or Fiji water, I believe in good quality water. Be good to your body! :)

*Remember that Coke, Lemonade or caffeinated beverages do not count as water!*
2. Using Rose Hip Oil before my moisturizer on the day of the flight.
Why?
The oil penetrates into the skin and makes it soft and supple to touch. Your skin will drink this up and thank you for it!

How?
Wash your face first before your flight. Place 2 or 3 drops of Rose Hip Oil onto your fingertips and rub them together. Apply the oil on your skin by either softly massaging your face or as I like to do it, pat the oil evenly on your face.
I like to use the Akin Rose Hip Oil!

3.      Using a thicker moisturizer than usual (use cream instead of lotion).
Why?
A cream is a thicker moisturizer and will provide more moisture than a regular lotion would. They goal here is to keep the skin happy by giving it moisture that it can absorb during the flight. A lotion maybe too light and will not be able to feed the skin as much moisture as a cream would

How?
Use this moisturizer on clean face and after the rose hip oil. CAUTION: Don’t over apply, it can break you out, know your skin and know how much your skin really needs.
I like to use Dr. Alkaitis Organic Night Cream.

4. Make Lip Balm your best friend
Why?
This will moisturize the lips on the plane to avoid cracking cringe worthy lips. Keeping your nails in shape,  plus they don't qualify as a liquid so you can get past airport security, hassle free!

How?
Smear over lips to instantly repair and protect against cracking, peeling and general dryness.
I like to use EOS Smooth Sphere Organic Lip Balm in Honeysuckle.

Have fun travelling and tell me what you do to keep looking fabulous after a long arduous plane ride.
